About us - The first 11 years

For as long as I can remember I have been interested in trains and model railways. This goes all the way back to the early 1960s when I used to stay with my grandparents in their house alongside the West Coast Mainline opposite Stafford loco sheds. Starting off with Hornby Dublo three rail, I had a succession of model railway layouts culminating in two N gauge layouts, Burnside and Oxney which we exhibited around the south east in the 1980s and 1990s. When Oxney was coming towards the end of its life on the exhibition circuit, I was faced with the choice of either building a new layout or starting a model train business; I chose the latter.

Our first release was an N gauge class 24 kit; followed in 1997 by a OO version of the same loco. We have followed a formula of easy-to-build kits using proprietary chassis units and incorporating single piece cast resin body shells; offered in kit or ready to run formats. We have mostly concentrated on diesel and electric prototypes from the BR modernization era of the 1950s and 1960s.

In 2007 we have released our first item of Irish rolling stock, a ex BR mk1 Generating Steam van and our Irish models continue to go from strength to strength. We have also started to use E Bay (seller : silverfoxmodels) to sell customized and standard proprietary locos and loco bodies. We have also released our first three Limited Editions. For 2008, in addition to consolidating our standard range, we hope to develop further our customized models and release more limited editions. This will see a trend towards a mixture of models of contemporary prototypes in addition to our more usual era of the 1950s, 60s and 70s.
